WeTheNorth Tor FAQ
Do I need Tor Browser for WeTheNorth?
To use the onion address, yes — .onion resolves only inside Tor. The mirrors (wtnmarket.store, wtnmarket.net, wtnmarket.ru) open anywhere for browsing. Common practice: browse on mirrors, order on Tor.
Is Tor legal in Canada?
Completely. Tor is open-source privacy software used worldwide by journalists, lawyers, businesses and ordinary people. Downloading it from torproject.org and browsing with it is legal in Canada.
Why does the onion address look so strange?
Because it is not a name — it is a key. The 56 characters are the base32 form of the market's Ed25519 public key. That is why phishing clones cannot fake it, and why a single typo just fails to connect instead of landing on a look-alike. Details on our onion links page.
VPN or Tor?
Tor for market use. A VPN moves trust from your ISP to a VPN company; Tor removes the single point of trust entirely. Tor-over-VPN is fine if you already pay for a VPN you trust. VPN-over-Tor is rarely worth it. More in the safety guide.
Is Tor slow?
A bit — three relays take their toll. Market pages load in seconds; first connections can take up to 30 seconds. If a page stalls, get a new circuit (Tor menu → New Tor circuit for this site) before blaming the market.
Can I use Tor on my phone?
Android has an official Tor Browser on torproject.org and the Play Store. iOS users are better served by a desktop — the Tor options there are third-party.
Does the onion address ever change?
The canonical onion address has been stable; mirrors rotate more often. Any change is announced on the forum (wtnforum.net) and reflected across our directory family. Bookmark us and you will hear about it here too.
What if the onion page won't load?
Order of fixes: 1) new circuit, 2) restart Tor Browser, 3) check a mirror — if mirrors respond, the market is fine and the circuit was the problem, 4) check the forum for announcements. Still stuck? The setup guide covers bridge configuration for stubborn networks.
